TAPP Urges Policymakers to Unburden Tech Innovation to Help Small Businesses

With the rise of digital platforms and the increasing dependence of small businesses on technology to reach consumers, it is crucial that American policymakers take steps to ensure that small businesses are not hindered by high costs and restrictive regulations.

A poll was conducted on May 13-23, 2022, by Ipsos on behalf of the American Edge Project (AEP), surveyed 1,000 likely midterm voters nationwide, and oversampled 630 likely voters in Senate battleground states as well as 513 likely voters in House battleground districts.

With 84% of respondents believing that small businesses that rely on tech platforms to reach consumers could be hurt if they are forced to spend more money to attract customers, it is clear these small businesses need support to remain competitive.

Furthermore, 87% of respondents are concerned that restricting American tech companies from developing innovative new products could make the United States economically less competitive. As technology continues to advance at a rapid pace, it is essential that American companies continue to compete on a global scale and continue to drive economic growth through innovation.

To address these concerns, American policy initiatives should focus on promoting technological innovation in several key areas.

Policymakers should work to remove barriers to entry for new and innovative companies, such as reducing regulatory burdens and promoting competition.

Therefore, TAPP urges policymakers to support small businesses and ensure the competitiveness of the United States in the global economy through legislation that incentivizes technological innovation.
