TAPP in DC Journal: A $2,000 Tariff on a $4,000 Canadian Painting Shows What’s Wrong with U.S. Trade Policy
Trade Alliance to Promote Prosperity Founder Patrick Rosenstiel penned an op-ed, “A $2,000 Tariff on a $4,000 Canadian Painting Shows What’s Wrong with U.S. Trade Policy” for Inside Sources which appeared in the DC Journal today.
In part, Rosenstiel wrote, “The United States has every right to enforce its trade laws and protect American workers and businesses. Canada, likewise, has its trade policies, protections and economic interests that do not always align perfectly with ours. The reality is that neither country is entirely innocent when trade disputes arise. Yet, tariffs should be a tool, not an ideology. Disagreements between Canada and the United States should not obscure a much larger reality: Our countries are neighbors, allies and deeply integrated economic partners. Our interdependence means escalating tariffs can quickly become self-defeating.”
