TAPP in Odessa (Texas) American: Toward a global alliance for fair drug pricing and innovation

Trade Alliance to Promote Prosperity Executive Director Kent Kaiser, Ph.D., recently had an op-ed, "Toward a global alliance for fair drug pricing and innovation," published in the Odessa, Texas, American newspaper.

In the op-ed, Kaiser advocated for a global drug market alliance that would mitigate global freeloading on American patients and preserve pharmaceutical innovators' ability to continue innovating for the benefit of the world.

In part, the op-ed said, "If the U.S. continues subsidizing the global drug market alone, we risk hollowing out the R&D ecosystem. A coordinated alliance of advanced countries committed to fair burden-sharing in drug pricing and innovation could realign incentives and stabilize the system. NATO puts a two percent GDP contribution expectation on member countries; a coordinated global alliance on drug pricing similarly could involve a percentage of each OECD country’s GDP committed to biopharmaceutical R&D”.
