TAPP in DC Journal: Reject Trump’s ‘Most Favored Nation’ Drug Pricing Idea

Trade Alliance to Promote Prosperity Executive Director Kent Kaiser, Ph.D., penned an op-ed for the DC Journal, “Reject Trump’s ‘Most Favored Nation’ Drug Pricing Idea, published today.

In part, the op-ed said, “The White House is preparing to make healthcare the focus of its midterm-election campaign, as the president made clear in his State of the Union Address. The president is urging Republicans to codify his ‘most favored nation’ policies, tying U.S. drug prices to what patients pay abroad. It’s a bad idea wrapped in well-meaning sentiment… If America adopts the same price-suppression strategies as other wealthy nations, the economic engine that produces new cures will stall… Trump’s goal should not be to weaken innovation at home but to strengthen shared commitment abroad.”
