South Dakota’s farmers, biofuel producers, and rural businesses depend on clear and predictable federal policy to make investments, expand operations, and create jobs. Congressman Dusty Johnson deserves recognition for urging the U.S. Department of the Treasury to provide that certainty by moving quickly to finalize rules regarding the Section 45Z Clean Fuel Production Tax Credit.
Congressman Johnson has joined lawmakers from Minnesota and Iowa in calling on Treasury to complete the 45Z rules while preserving provisions that help ensure the credit drives investment and economic opportunity in the communities where biofuels are produced. Prolonged uncertainty could delay projects, complicate business decisions, and discourage investments that would benefit South Dakota’s agricultural and energy sectors.
The biofuel industry plays an important role in South Dakota’s economy—just look at the benefits that Glacial Lakes Energy brings to Aberdeen. Well-designed 45Z rules can encourage additional investment in production facilities, infrastructure, and new technologies while strengthening domestic energy production and helping American agriculture compete more effectively in the global marketplace.
The Trade Alliance to Promote Prosperity commends Congressman Johnson for advocating for South Dakota’s farmers, biofuel producers, and rural economy. Treasury should respond by finalizing clear, workable 45Z regulations without further delay.
