TAPP e-Allegation with CBP Results in Enforcement Action
The Trade Alliance to Promote Prosperity filed an e-Allegation with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol pursuant to the organization’s 2025 Tariff Integrity initiative case study about Techtronic Industries/Milwaukee Tool. Subsequently, CBP confirmed that an enforcement action came of it and thanked TAPP for helping to protect the U.S. economy.
The CBP’s e-Allegations program provides an electronic portal through which the trade community and the general public can report suspected trade violations. The e-Allegations process enables CBP, in collaboration with its partners, to protect the U.S. economy from the effects of unfair trade practices and guard against the entry of products that could pose a threat to health and safety.
The nature of the e-Allegation filed by TAPP centered on the suspected practice of transshipment to evade section 301 tariffs. Read the TAPP case study here: https://www.tariffintegrity.org/tti/milwaukeetool
In a response to TAPP, the federal trade law enforcement agency wrote, “U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) conducted a thorough investigation of the allegation that merchandise was imported into the United States in violation of the customs and trade laws of the United States. The investigation is now closed and resulted in an enforcement action… CBP takes all trade violation allegations seriously and is committed to protecting United States industries and businesses from unfair trade practices. The Trade Secrets Act, the Privacy Act, and other CBP regulations and related statutes prevent us from sharing specific information regarding this case. We cannot disclose what specific enforcement actions were taken in response to your e-allegation. Thank you for helping us to protect the U.S. economy.”
